Annual enrollment (AE) season is one of the busiest times of year for human resources and benefits professionals. It’s also our time to shine! Every year you spend weeks — often months — preparing for the storm of employee questions and policy changes, all while ensuring the proper enrollment procedures are in place. Yet, despite creating numerous checklists and following the protocols and schedule, there always seems to be something unexpected that pops up. However, I believe these twists and turns are an opportunity for us to show the true value we add to the organization.

AE is also not all sunshine and rainbows for our employees. Almost half of employees would rather do something unpleasant (like walk over hot coals) than complete their benefits enrollment. This explains why nearly 60% of employees spend less than 30 minutes selecting their benefits, despite it being a year-long financial commitment.
