A number of years ago, I worked as an executive recruiter for an international executive search firm. I really enjoyed helping various companies find the right executives for their C-suite, and I learned a lot about making sure job descriptions were up to date, hiring decision makers understood the market and how to match the candidate to the culture.

Over the past several years, I have been on the other side as an HR professional working with internal and external recruiters to support hiring needs. Most recently, I have had the opportunity to manage a recruiting process for a smaller company with high-demand job openings, and I’ve chosen to work with outside professional search firms.

I had to establish the process from scratch, but learned the following key points that have substantially contributed to a process that quickly places the right candidate and ensures that we are able to retain great talent:
